There is no new writing homework this week.
STUDENT TO DOs: 1. Complete any missing weekly writing. On Monday, Mrs. Mense will let you know what you are missing. Turn in late work to Mrs. Mense's desk. 2. Make sure you complete & turn in your 6-word memoir narrative (story). There are extra forms on Mrs. Mense's desk. This can be turned in to the tray. This week, you will again be practicing writing sensory details.
If you need to review what sensory language is, check out the previous weekly writing post. See the image below for your directions. You will only CHOOSE 2 of the 5 for your homework this week. Due: Friday, 11/15. Sensory language is language that appeals to the 5 senses (sight, sound, smell, taste, touch). This means the writer writes SO DESCRIPTIVELY that the reader can imagine what the writer is trying to say. The reader can PICTURE it in his or her mind.
An example of sensory language from "The Cremation of Sam McGee": "Talk of your cold! through the parka's fold it stabbed like a driven nail. If our eyes we'd close, then the lashes froze till sometimes we couldn't see..." YOUR HOMEWORK THIS WEEK: Pretend you are going to write a narrative about a day at school. Add sensory details to each of the following sentences to create a new paragraph full of IMAGERY. Due: Friday, 11/8 It was a cold Halloween day. Students ate a lot of candy. Everyone was happy. The students were excited to spend their talon tickets. The final bell rang to go home. |
